Podcasts

Podcasts are audio programs. In simple terms, a podcast is a digital medium consisting of audio (or video) episodes that relate to a specific theme. Podcasting doesn't have a long history. In fact, the word podcast was introduced in 2004. While podcasts are a relatively recent invention, they've had a major impact on audiences across the world. Typically, podcasters will record and edit digital content and share it with an audience.

For our purposes we are going to look at how we can create story-telling platforms, in creating a podcast we have to use a written form of prose where we have written out a story that feels like natural conversation, and/or a video script. We add spookiness and ambiance with background music, ambient sounds, and/or sound effects.

Have a listen to these example podcasts, you only need to listen to a minute or two for the lesson today, and take note of how they use background sounds to add to the spookiness of their storytelling.

STEP BY STEP:

01.

Brainstorm ideas. think of something entertaining and a story you would like to share through a podcast.

02.

Write up a scary story. Give it a plot line, with characters, a theme, a clear spooky setting, and a terrifying plot twist.

03.

Practice saying it out loud. get used to saying it naturally, plan out where you might pause dramatically, and add some inflictions to your words.

04.

Record yourself saying it out loud. Do a few takes, the first won't always be the perfect one.

Include a greeting, a show name, and an ending.

05.

Add music, sound effects, and a podcast cover photo.

Maybe its a logo, a drawing, or even a photo of yourself.
